The progression of building the Chocolate Mill

Our strawbale premises and home in Mt Franklin

Yes, our premises and home are built with STRAW, rendered in earth.

Chocolate Mill is a vision that took four years to eventuate.

We take great pride in calling ourselves "The Owner and The Builder". Chris worked on the house fulltime and Jen on weekends and at night.

We wanted to not only make great chocolate but also to be environmentally friendly as well. So this involved planning from the ground up- literally! From designing the building, sourcing an estimated 70% of recycled materials, learning valuable problem-solving skills and knowing every bale personally.

The site preparation of the Chocolate Mill project started in January 2001. The frame went up and building started in Febuary 2002 and officially ended in September 2003 when Jen and Chris moved in.

We also highly recommend John Bushby and his crew for any of your rendering. You can find him at www.earthrender.com.au

We have set up images for you to see the progress of this stage. You can select a thumbnail image to view a larger photo for more detail.
